|Cultural interest evaluation||A story that was born twenty-six million years ago in the mycenaean era, fascinating and rich of intriguing mystery, that has expanded until today and has evolved specifically, and not accidentally, into the caldera of the ancient Vulture volcano. A narration that has become a world heritage of scientific and entomological knowledge and which is part of our land v. A story of the european Bramea , of its incredible discovery by Count Hartig, almost seems fiction, still too little known to the common world as a reference because of its uniqueness and specificity. The ancient living fossil found in the Vulture brings us back to far geological eras making us understand what particular place we live in. There are a dozen species of the "Brahmaeidae" families but the closest to us are in India, Taiwan, Nepal, China.
The presence of this fossil is a demonstration of how little is known about European natural history and how important it may be to divulgate its existence scientifically, artistically and anthropologically and how we can continue to safeguard it in its natural habitat. The value of a species is immeasurable. It can be compared with the value of artistical works, often considered invaluable, but like these after a species has disappeared, nothing and no one can bring it back to life.
The project tends to develop a scientific knowledge to greater visibility and promotion, which is shared by art and science, which has the ambition to raise the element in question (which has all the features to be tangible) to a different communicative world that can be fascinating and intriguing.
Seeking beauty in what is closest to us,like the ancient Greeks who identified the butterfly and the soul with Psyche, is the spirit at the origin of eternity.
The european Bramea represents the knowledge of our land, a symbol of an archaic time and is a source of reflection for that challenge not to lose the virtue of our people's memory. It represents an absolute and incomparable specificity with other places, which are not just a few other places on our planet. It is the task of our community, of our people, to safeguard and to make this good known even outside the most important areas of science.
A hidden treasure that needs to be disclosed in further areas but at the same time must continue to be protected as a casket.
The mystery that accompanies its existence makes the Bramea a stratagem to attract magic and art in an enchanted place.
|Context||The Bramea finds its natural habitat where the castle of Monticchio stood, that became in 1971 after the proposal of the count Hartig the state reserve of the Grotticell that represents the only legislative provision in Italy for the protection of a butterfly.Today the risk of extintion is high. The narration takes place in Vulture,a landscape enriched by 2 green and blue lakes that were formed by 2 volcano craters and antient forests. The volcano activity influenced the history of these places and of men.Nature constitutes the identity of this area. The narration started in antient times, since the eruptions that got quieter leaving space to the 2 lakes and the mineral sources. The place is rich of history and mysticism;it is not possible to date the first human settlements but since the year 1000 the stories of the abbey of S.Michele,S.Ippolito and the Monticchio castle started to mix together. The history of the abbey is tightly linked to the natural history of the area and also the history of men is linked to it.
The caldera of Vulture along with the abbey of S.Ippolito and of S.Michele was at the centre of the most significant historical moments of the town.It is thanks to the peculiarities of its nature that Vulture became famous in 800’,attracting visitors and painters from everywhere that made this marvellous town scientifically artistically and literally wider.
|Description of the managment mode||1. The project proposes a path through the production of a documentary with historical and naturalistic features, involving researchers and starting with the important figure of count Hartig but then focusing on the Bramea, how and why it lives in our areas and the best way to safeguard it . The distribution will be international.
2. A scenic narration, accessible to everyone, telling about this incredible story with a structure that can be turned into a tourism vehicle. The scientific reality that mixes with fantasy and art by building an original text based on the experiences of local people and important university professors, entomologists and historians who continue to devote their work to the Bramea. Any event will be enriched with original music. Extraregional level communication.
3. Meetings, seminars and debates on the theme of the protection of the intangible element.
4. Indispensable involvement of new audiences
5. Production of multidisciplinary materials with translation into english and, possibly, in other languages, to be divulgated in Italian and foreign schools and universities.
|Significant features||The european Bramea as an emblem of the knowledge and awareness of our land, a symbol of an archaic time as well as a source of reflection to undertake the challenge against the loss of memory of our people. It is also an absolute and practically incomparable species and consequently the task of our community is to safeguard it. This priceless treasure that has come unexpectedly us needs to be disclosed, protected and valued even in different areas from the very important scientific fields. The Bramea is not important just because it is present only in Vulture:it is a living fossil, coming from a very far geological era. It is an animal that miraculously escaped extinction, an ancient being that we find wonderful to be still alive here and contributes to our emotional history and our aesthetics.|

Safeguard plan proposed
The community is the first to be interested in the process of building and growth of this element, in the sense of a deeper knowledge, of an emotional involvement in the beauty of nature and in safeguarding the places where it has lived. The project, seen as an educational form for schools, sensitizing the culture of green, has a privileged channel with the establishment of a partnership with "Basilicata Fiorita" and the imminent "Gardentopia", in collaboration with the Matera foundation 2019.
