The historical centre ,the murales makers
The murales are realized on the entire facades of the houses of the historical centre, they make the valley the town lies in ine of the most painted of Italy along with the two neighboring towns: Satriano di Lucania and Savoia di Lucani.
|Cultural interest evaluation||Born in 1993 for the initiative of the ANSPI Cultural Circle with the idea to give back aesthetic value to the buildings reconstructed after the 1980 earthquake. In fact they had lost their urban architectural identity by telling stories about Murales, magic, legends, uses and the traditions of the rural people of Santangiolese, which is a significant part of Basilicata, immersed itself in a system of life that still reflects certain values and traditions of centenarian rural culture; A land made of reserved people, a storyteller of stories of the night of the times, who know the cycles of nature and its hard laws.|
|Context||The history of the murals at Sant'Angelo Le Fratte began in 1993 on the initiative of the ANSPI cultural association thanks to the involvement of the association of painters and sculptors ARPEC (Arte per Comunicare), which since 1997 has become a promoted and funded initiative of the municipality, that became APV (Art For the Valley)in 2001. The myth of Dionysus is the first theme of the murals made by the Arte Per la Valle association, a group of artists guided by Luciano La Torre, who through pictorial works describes a fascinating journey of myths, beliefs and traditions; From the myth of the Sibylites, to the biblical quotation of Moses who writes the commandments, to the citizen of Sant. Angelo that dominates the rock. At this time of necessity and demand for the defense of the planet and of recalling the uncontaminated places, in this age of necessary cultural revolution, the value of these projects reflecting the charm of myths, the immanent sacredness of nature, its symbolic language, with a fascinating and culturally valuable medium, is proposed to a diversified tourism.|
|Description of the managment mode||The most used painting technique is that of "vero fresco", where the various pigments are applied directly to the surface of the wall just plastered, allowing full color absorption. Unfortunately, no protection is guaranteed from atmospheric events and fortunately we have restored part of them.We always plan on the recovery of others and we continue to give way to the creation of new works. Because murals are simple, they are easy to safeguard. They don’t belong to the Santangoli community anymore (although it is an integral part of the image of the town), but they are the heritage of anyone who appreciates their artistic and cultural value. A heritage capable of attracting, amazing and fascinating thousands of italian and foreign visitors.|
|Significant features||The realization of these works includes two important phases: the first hosts moments of research on the history, legends, traditions, customs and of the places where one has to operate, in order to discover their identity; The second is devoted to full inclusion in the social, both by working in the streets between people and in the issues faced. The mural, as it operates in the street, among ordinary people, attracts attention, becomes a cultural "show", an open-air school, emotionally involving, entering the inner world of individuals, soliciting the creativity of each one. The murals want to 'speak' to everyone, beyond any diversity of race, culture, religion, and language. They interpret the need of present, past, and future residents to scream their identity. A thought or an emotion can be expressed in different languages, each one can find a language more congenial than another, like a painter can express himself in all visual languages and in all styles. The works therefore have more readings, from the most immediate, simple, concerning the local history, clear to all, to the deeper ones, of symbolic universal language.|
