The Isabella Morra Literary Park is a project of cultural, social and economic growth and promotion that covers the entire Valsinense community, because it uses the literary source as a key for reading the territory in all its aspects:naturalistic,historical one,architectural, demo-anthropological and culinary .Born from the idea of the "Ippolito Nievo" Foundation, which promoted the realization of "The Literary Parks", Valsinni has been involved in the institution and evolution of the municipal administration and the Pro Loco, to which they were entrusted.The promotion of the activities and related services has gradually involved large sections of citizenship.During this porject that lasts since 20 years various personalities participated including the writer Dacia Maraini, professor Giovanni Caserta and Headmaster of the National Center of Leopard Studies in Recanati.According to a protocol of understanding, the Pro Loco, which holds the "knowledge", is currently entrusted with the immaterial aspects of the literary park, while the municipality provides for the logistics,structural and infrastructural aspects.
As the Literary Park the relation between the poetry of Isabella Morra and the places that inspired her is represented and it has the Valsinni territory as a scenery, making the landscape a constituent element of the identity of the community. Particularly emblematic are the feudal castle and the medieval village, the Sinni River,the mount Coppola, along whose slopes that meet the "rocks and the "intricate woods" that recur in the verses of the poetess.The suggestions and atmosphere of the Literary Park are evoked during promotional initiatives in the regional and national spheres.
For some years, the Valsinni Literary Park has been included by APT Basilicata among the "attractions" of the Region.
|Thematic areas||History (moments,aspects/problems,main characters)|
|Cultural interest evaluation||Isabella Morra undoubtedly represents the most significant and representative cultural resource of the community, which has gained this awareness especially in the early 1900s, with a series of initiatives culminating in a visit to Valsinni by Benedetto Croce, who discovered and appreciated the poetess.
Several activities followed, such as the national conference held by Mario Sansone in 1975, exhibitions of "feminine" painting in the feudal castle, theatrical performances, until the first edition of "L'estate di Isabella", created in 1991, which essentially anticipated the philosophy and methodology of the Literary Park, formally born in 1993, second in Italy and first in the south and centre of Italy.
The Literary Park is, first and foremost, a tool for recovering the roots and pride of belonging to the site, and has shown over the years that it can be proposed as an antidote to homologation, stimulating even in the most ' young people to be aware of the cultural identity of the place they live in.
The activities proposed represent an instrument for those who want to refine their skills and their inclinations not only in the field of acting and art, but also in the recovery of traditional crafts such as embroidery, woodworking and stone.
The uniqueness of the idea is linked to the concept of authenticity, which, of course, derives from the impossibility of being replicated in other contexts.
The Literary Park is also an employment opportunity, already widely tested during the summer, and an example of how culture can trigger economic mechanisms. The goal is to create self-propelled processes, but the risk is that the mechanism will run out if there are no adequate resources in the meantime to support the initiative.
|Context||The historical context is that of Favale(current Valsinni)of 500’ where Isabella Morra lived while there was the war between France of Francesco I and Carlo V.The archive researches,gathered in the volume "La Valle del Sinni ai tempi di Isabella Morra"made the re-building of the facts,uses and aspects of everyday life possible.These sources are used for the animation activities of the literary park,which spirit sinks in the roots of the cultural movement that started in Valsinni at the beggining of 900’with the constitution of a committee for Isabella Morra,the re-prinitng of her “canzoniere”and the pubblishing of a postcard that linked Valsinni to the name of the poetess.This fervour had its most significant moment in the visit of Benedetto Croci to the town in 1928. “..and I wanted to go to the places where that short life and that poem was sang...Drawn by a desire to get close to the cases of the past again through the things that the silent testimonies assisted,that are not taled about and seem to awaken the most vivid evocation”.So Benedetto Croci anticipated the idea of the literary parks and was the first visitor.Since then researches on the poetry of Isabella Morra started in all Italy,that represented a unique figure in the poetic female panorama of 500’.Contemporarily Isabella Morra was seen as an emblem of the female condition,able to evoke interest and felt participation.This context not only historical and cultural but also emotional consented the birth of the literary park of Valsinni that continues to substain the initiatives and manifestations realized also abroad,that influences the awareness and sensitivity of the citizans of Valsinni.|
|Description of the managment mode||The commitment of the Pro Loco is to transmit to the new generations the idea that the literary park is a distinctive feature of Valsinni that expresses its cultural identity .So there are initiatives in schools and also involving the young citizans of Valsinni in the organization,promotion and managment of the activities of the literary park.|
|Significant features||The literary park is an invitation to know Isabella Morra through the places that testified her story and her shout of freedom and denunciation.It is also a way to know the places through their traditions,legends and myths.
From a practical point of view there are spectacular proposals during which the ministrels are a link between the places and the visitors,bringing these to discover the authentic aspects.
